1. How many plates fit on a barbell?
Thanks to their slim profile, you can load an especially large number of our Iron Plates onto a bar. A Sigma barbell with 415 mm sleeves takes 11 × 20 kg plates per side, for a total of 460 kg. Even a complete 205 kg set of Iron Plates fits on a single barbell.
2. What material are the weight plates made of, and how durable are they?
We use ductile (spheroidal graphite) cast iron, which is also widely used for automotive components, wheels, gearboxes and machine frames. The iron is cast to class 30 and offers high tensile strength and corrosion resistance. A tough paint finish completes the long-lasting rust protection.
3. What are the advantages of cast-iron plates?
Cast iron/steel: Classic, long-lasting and often budget-friendly plates. They're very robust, and their relatively slim profile makes them especially space-saving to store. The thin design also lets you load lots of plates onto a barbell at once, making them ideal for heavy training weights.
4. How do I care for my weight plates?
Cast iron: Wipe off dust and sweat regularly. For light surface rust, a vinegar treatment helps; afterwards, apply a little oil or rust protection.
